It’s true that the Monty is inspired by the light hikers of the 80s, but we wouldn’t go so far as to call it a retro style. We’ve built the Monty on a slim, modern last, we utilize top quality materials, and state of the art manufacturing processes to make them. However, they do have definite analog aesthetic about them. We love the proportions and simplicity of the pattern which mask the real light-hiker abilities we’ve built in. The exposed EVA midsole cushions every step while the TP heel clip keeps you locked in. Our vari-flex lasting board does double duty as a shank to make sure flexion is controlled, but doesn’t sacrifice daily wearability, and it’s also available with a fully waterproof liner.

On top of that, did we mention that the Monty comes in both low-top and hi-top (technically more of a mid-top) versions? Talk about versatility.

  • High quality oiled suede upper with DWR coating.
  • Color-matched eyelets.
  • Eva-cush footbed - antimicrobial, lightweight, supportive and super comfy.
  • Vari-flex lasting board - stiff in the mid and heel, softer in the toe. Protects the underfoot from sharp stones whilst retaining flexibility in the forefoot for comfort.
  • Unisex sizing.

The unisex Monty Lo - affordable comfort for the trail, office or bar - one and all..! Built For Your Life.

Sturdy but not well padded

I love the build, I normally wear a 9.5 but I got the 10. Should have stuck with 9.5. They have very little padding under foot. They're great for day hikes but I wouldn't take them out on a multi day trip.

Monty Lo for a reason

I got a pair of Monty Hi’s back in the summer and they were immediately comfortable and still are. So I thought I’d bag me a pair of their Lo brothers in the sale… but I am sad to say that they were immediately not as comfy and either felt like they were going to fall off due to the super loose laces or, tied up properly, actually hurt the top of my right foot and made my right big toe go numb whenever I stood still!
BUT… I persevered and I realised yesterday that I had not thought about them all day, as they are becoming as comfy as their hi top siblings, and so just needed a little wearing in!

Very nice shoes. I loved it.

loved the shoes, nice style and great product. I would suggest offering an optional wider version. It would fit more comfortably to wide feet like mine. Iwould recommend.

Smaller than expected

I ordered my usual shoe size, but these felt like they were designed for hobbits—at least a size too small! To make matters worse, they don’t even make larger sizes. As someone with wider feet, I felt like I was trying to squeeze a watermelon into a teacup. Needless to say, it didn’t work out.

Good style in the retro hiker

Overall it's hitting the exact retro hiker notes I like in the Danner Jag, which no longer comes in low-ankle versions. These Ridgemonts have a narrower toe box than the Danners, however. As the styles I like to wear with this kind of shoe often involve thicker socks, that can leave the front half of my foot a little constrained.
